Heat Pumps & Smart Water Heaters
the qualifying heat pump equipment must meet specific SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) and HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) ratings
The SEER (or SEER2) rating measures an air conditioner’s or heat pump’s cooling efficiency over a typical cooling season. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. Higher SEER-rated systems can significantly lower your energy bills as they consume less electricity to achieve the same cooling output.
The HSPF (or HSPF2) rating assesses heat pumps’ heating efficiency over an entire heating season. Similar to SEER, a higher HSPF rating denotes higher efficiency. Choosing a heat pump with a higher HSPF rating ensures you get the most heating output for the least energy consumed, leading to energy and cost savings.
In addition to adequate energy efficiency ratings, to qualify for a rebate, new heat pump systems must have an AHRI certificate, and the system’s indoor and outdoor units must be matched. Quality Home HVAC can help you identify which heat pump models will help you qualify for Xcel Energy’s rebate program.
